Llorente controversial angle of his goal NOT shown by VAR against Man City in Champions League match!
Llorente controversial angle of his goal that wasn’t shown by VAR against Man City.
Manchester City and Tottenham played out arguably one of the best matches in Champions League history.
Four goals were scored in 12 minutes as Tottenham eventually edged out Manchester City with an overall 5-5 score (on away goals).
City thought that they won it in injury time, but Sterling’s goal was rightfully chalked off for offside.
One of the biggest controversies of the match was when Fernando Llorente scored his goal. This proved to be a decisive goal, but there was a controversy about using his hand to score a goal.
VAR was used, but strangely the referee never saw the crucial replay, which pointed to Llorente using his hand to score a goal. If he would have seen this replay on VAR there’s a chance that the goal would be overruled which would have changed the outcome of this match.
Llorente’s hand just wasn’t so close to his body when the ball hit it, so this will end up as a big ‘what if’ moment of this tie.
It’s difficult to understand why this wasn’t shown to the referee, but the match is over and Tottenham knocked out City.
Tottenham will now face Ajax in the semi-final while City will have to regroup at the weekend for another match against Tottenham.
