Watch the famous Zinedine Zidane’s headbutt, which is exactly 10 years old, on Marco Materazzi in World Cup 2006!
Zinedine Zidane is the biggest footballing product ever made by France. This season, he has won Champions League with Real Madrid, but exactly 10 years ago, Zizu was still a player and playing one of the most important matches of his career.
When France won the World Cup in 1998, it was thanks to Zidane’s performances. When France won EURO 2000, it was due to Zidane’s presence. World Cup in 2006, was the last international tournament (any kind of tournament) to feature Zidane, and again Zizu played a crucial role for France.

Zizu came out of international retirement just ahead of the world cup 2016, and gave France exactly what was missing. Creativity!
Zinedine again helped France to reach the finale, but unlike in his previous finales, did something that defeated France, and gave the title to Italy.
It was 20th minute of extra time, and Zidane was very close to Materazzi, they had a war of words, which Materazzi obviously won (he said something about Zizu’s sister). Zizu looked at Materazzi and give him one of the best headbutts I have ever seen.
Referees weren’t impressed with Zidane’s headbutt though, and Zizu saw red.

Italy eventually won after penalties, but it could have been different, if Zizu would still be on the pitch.
Zidane ended his career on a sour note, but no one held that against the legend, and he is still regarded as the best football player of the early 21 century.
