A proof that Luis Suarez is more effective striker than Cristiano Ronaldo!

Luis Suarez

Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez are currently the best strikers in La Liga. They are the biggest threats to opposing goal and have a combined figure of 66 goals between them this season in La Liga. Some think that Cristiano Ronaldo is the best striker ever, but I am going to prove it to you that Suarez is actually more effective than Ronaldo!

La Liga season is coming to a close, with Barcelona and Real Madrid (again) competing for the title. Barcelona has the best position, but Real could still win the title on the last day of La Liga!

Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo have been the best goalscorers this season, with Suarez taking the mantle from Messi (at least in scoring goals). Suarez is (probably) going to win this years “Pichichi”, given that he has scored four more goals than Ronaldo, and there is only one game left in La Liga.

Even if Ronaldo would somehow score five goals in the last game, while Suarez none, Suarez would still be a more effective striker this season.

As you can see, in 2012/2013 season, Ronaldo scored 34 goals with 235 shots, while Suarez scored 23 goals with 187 shots. Suarez was still playing in Premier League for Liverpool, while Ronaldo was already scoring for Real Madrid.

That season, was the only season, Ronaldo had a better conversion rate (14.4% > 12.2%). This means that Ronaldo was more effective than Suarez in that season (needed less shots to score more goals).

Since than Suarez has been more effective, or at least equally effective as Ronaldo!

In the season 2013/2014, when both players scored the same amount of goals in their leagues (Suarez was still in Premier League), Suarez needed 35 shots less to score the same amount of goals.

Suarez scored “only”16 goals (due to his ban) in 2014/2015 season, while Ronaldo scored 48 goals. Surprisingly, they both had the same conversion rate! This means that, if Suarez would have taken 225 shots, he would also score 48 goals.

The biggest difference between the players effectiveness was in this season. Suarez has a 12.6% bigger conversion rate than Ronaldo. If Suarez would shot 220 times (with the same conversion rate), he would have scored around 60 goals. If that happened, Suarez would have broken La Liga record of the most goals scored in a single La Liga season!

Overall, Cristiano Ronaldo has had 896 shots, and scored 146 goals in the past four seasons. Suarez, on the other hand, took 577 shots, and scored 107 goals in the past four seasons. This means that Suarez was overall more effective than Ronaldo in the last four seasons (18.5% vs 16.2%).

Luis Suarez is more effective (currently and overall) striker than Ronaldo, but Cristiano does prove something, and that is,.. if you want to score a lot of goals, you have to shoot a lot! Ronaldo has had more shots than any player from top 5 leagues in Europe, and that has helped him to became one of the best goalscorers in the planet.

Luis Suarez is more effective striker than Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo masks his poor efficiency with a lot of shots (the most from the big leagues). Ronaldo’s goal scoring strategy is very simply and it works. The point is to shoot more and you will score more. It isn’t efficient, but I guess no one really cares about efficiency (at least at Real Madrid).
