Martin Odegaard is one of the most promising young football players in the world. There has been months of speculation about where the wonder kid will end up playing football. There was talk about him signing for Bayern Munich, Barcelona, even Southampton. In the end he chose Real Madrid. But, did Martin Odegaard made the right choice by signing for Real Madrid?

Real Madrid is one of the biggest clubs in the world of football. They have the most expensive players in their team. With that I mean Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez. These players also earn a lot of money, especially Cristiano Ronaldo. His yearly salary is around 21 million Euros. Which is not bad, by any means.

Martin Odegaard is only 16 years old. He has become a sensation over night basically. He is the product of Stromsgodset, a football club from Norwegian first league. He made his professional debut when he was just 15 years old. That means, he has just one full season under his belt in Norwegian first league.

Although Martin Odegaard broke some records due to his young age, I think his achievements has been over exposed by the media. I mean, he has just one full season in Norwegian first league and people are compering him with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Although he is very technical and mature for his age, I believe that this comparisons are just unrealistic.

And now Martin Odegaard has signed for Real Madrid. He will get a salary of 80.000 € a week. I mean this is just crazy money, for the 16 year old kid. Because of this, Martin Odegaard has an enormous pressure on him to succeed.

He is in the club where it is practically impossible to make a breakthrough and start playing for the first team, and he is getting a massive amount of money, which in turn can distract him from his football career.

I believe that Martin Odegaard did not chose wisely, when he signed for Real Madrid. I think he would be better of staying at Stromsgodset for a couple of years, or signing for Ajax, where he would definitely get more playing time, that at Real Madrid.

Martin Odegaard reminds me of Freddy Adu. Another child prodigy, which fame destroyed his football career. He had a lot of expectations and simply too much pressure on him to succeed. At one point Freddy Adu was shooting commercials with Pele, but now days he is playing his trade in Serbian first league.

To sum up, I believe that Martin Odegaard made a bad choice by signing for Real Madrid. He had much better options, to advance his football career, but he chose the one, which got him the most glamour and the most money. I have no idea, if Martin Odegaard will succeed, but I do believe that with signing for Real Madrid, his chances of succeeding have actually become smaller.
